Snowy Day Hike & Bike

After a Saturday where the temperature didn't get above 3F, Trish and I decided to take advantage of today's relative warmth and snowshoe out to check on a couple of geocaches I have placed.

We had very nice scenery.

We were all very happy to be out in the woods.

Strike a Pose

After having a little lunch at home, I went back out for a solo ride in the lightly falling snow.

A little over a mile into my ride I passed a snowmobile trail that followed a power line.

Snowmobile Trail

Sometimes when I pass these trails I get the urge to go off road. I'm usually able to resist, but today I just had to try. I was able to ride pretty easily on the snow despite my 40mm wide tires. Who needs a fat tire snow bike........ok, maybe me.

I briefly considered riding the mile to the next road, but decided to turn around after about a third of a mile and continued on up the road.

Arnold Road

At one point I came upon three deer next to the road, so I stopped to get out my camera. One of the deer surprised me by running towards me instead of away. He moved so fast I couldn't compose a shot.

His buddies just looked on.

By the time I got home I had ridden almost 20 miles. I think this was my favorite ride of the year so far.
